Description
The BD Saf-T-Intima™ Safety System by Becton Dickinson (BD) is an advanced catheter system designed for both intravenous (IV) and subcutaneous (SC) infusion therapy. This versatile system is ideal for a variety of clinical settings, including pediatric, geriatric, palliative, and post-operative care. It supports essential medical applications such as medication delivery, pain management, and rehydration.
Key Features
- Closed System Design: Minimizes the risk of blood exposure and touch contamination, enhancing safety during insertion and use.
- Passive Safety Mechanism: Features a telescoping needle shield that automatically covers the needle post-use, reducing the risk of needlestick injuries for healthcare providers.
- Integrated Extension Set: Comes with pre-attached extension tubing and a removable slide clamp for secure and convenient use.
- Removable PRN Adapter: Ensures compatibility with ISO-compliant needleless connectors.
- Integrated Wings: Facilitates easier insertion and securement at the infusion site.
- Vent Plug: Available with Y-adapter configurations for added functionality.
Material and Design
The catheter is made from BD Vialon™ biomaterial, or Teflon® in some variants, which softens after insertion. This design allows for longer dwell times, reduces the need for restarts, and lowers the risk of phlebitis and site inflammation. The needle is crafted from stainless steel, with some variants featuring a notched design.
