Biatain Alginate by Coloplast is an advanced wound dressing tailored for the effective management of moderately to heavily exuding wounds. Composed of 85% alginate and 15% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), this dressing transforms into a soft, cohesive gel upon contact with wound exudate. This gel formation ensures close conformity to the wound bed, maintaining a moist environment that is conducive to healing.

Indications

Ideal for partial to full thickness wounds such as:

• Pressure ulcers

Precautions

Not recommended for dry or lightly exuding wounds, or for patients with known sensitivity to alginates or CMC. It should be used with a secondary cover dressing and under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Instructions for Use

Biatain Alginate should be cut to fit the wound using sterile scissors and applied loosely in cavity wounds. It should be secured with a suitable secondary dressing, with changes dependent on wound condition and exudate level, not exceeding a duration of seven days.

Product Variants

• Biatain Alginate Rope/Ribbon: Designed for cavity or narrow wounds.
• Biatain Alginate Ag: Incorporates an ionic silver complex for antimicrobial action, providing continuous antibacterial protection for up to seven days, suitable for infected or at-risk wounds.

This non-adhesive dressing requires a secondary dressing for fixation and is designed to facilitate atraumatic removal, making it a versatile and reliable choice for wound care management.
