Description

Biatain Alginate, crafted by Coloplast, is an advanced wound dressing tailored for the effective management of moderately to heavily exuding wounds. Composed of 85% alginate and 15% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), this dressing transforms upon contact with wound exudate, forming a soft, cohesive gel. This gel closely conforms to the wound bed, fostering a moist environment conducive to healing.

Key Features

  • Absorbency and Integrity: The dressing's high absorbency minimizes leakage, reducing the risk of maceration. It maintains integrity even when saturated, allowing for easy, one-piece removal with minimal pain.
  • Conformability: Its cuttable nature enables it to fit wounds of various sizes and shapes, ensuring close contact with the wound bed.
  • Haemostatic Properties: The release of calcium ions provides a haemostatic effect, beneficial for minor bleeding.

Versatility

Biatain Alginate is available in flat and ribbon forms, making it suitable for cavity filling and narrow wounds. It is also compatible with compression therapy, enhancing its versatility in wound care management. The dressing is intended for single-use only, ensuring optimal hygiene.

Indications

Ideal for a range of wounds such as pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, traumatic wounds, and post-operative surgical wounds. It is not recommended for dry or lightly exuding wounds, nor for those with known sensitivity to alginates or CMC.

Application

Application involves cutting the dressing to fit the wound using sterile scissors, covering it with a secondary dressing, and changing it as needed, not exceeding a 7-day interval. Removal is facilitated by rinsing with saline solution to prevent trauma to new tissue.

Biatain Alginate Ag

For wounds at risk of infection, Biatain Alginate Ag incorporates a patented silver complex, offering a broad antimicrobial profile. This variant provides continuous antibacterial protection for up to 7 days, making it suitable for infected wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers.

Precautions

Both variants should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional, with careful adherence to instructions. They are not intended for controlling heavy bleeding and should not be ingested or reused.

Biatain Alginate and its silver variant represent a comprehensive solution for effective wound management, promoting healing through innovative design and reliable performance.
