Description

Biatain Silicone Adhesive Foam, crafted by Coloplast, is a versatile wound dressing designed to enhance healing for a variety of exuding wounds. Its soft and flexible nature, combined with a gentle silicone adhesive, makes it suitable for wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, post-operative wounds, and traumatic injuries like abrasions and skin tears.

Innovative Design

  • 3D Foam Structure: The unique 3D foam structure closely conforms to the wound bed, ensuring superior absorption and minimizing gaps. This reduces exudate pooling and lowers the risk of maceration.
  • Multi-layered Composition:
  • A soft, absorbent polyurethane foam pad
  • A lock-away layer to retain exudate and bacteria
  • A semi-permeable, bacteria- and waterproof top film
  • A soft silicone adhesive layer for a secure, gentle fit

Effective Exudate Management

Biatain Silicone Adhesive Foam excels in managing wound exudate. It absorbs fluid vertically through microcapillaries, locks it away, and retains bacteria even under compression. This maintains a moist wound environment conducive to healing. Its high fluid handling capacity allows it to remain in place for up to seven days, potentially reducing the frequency of dressing changes.

Ease of Application and Comfort

The dressing is designed for intuitive, aseptic application with a 3-piece non-touch opening. It can be used under compression therapy and is comfortable to wear, conforming to wounds up to 2 cm deep. The secure fit ensures it stays in place, while minimizing pain and trauma during dressing changes.

Versatile Variants

Biatain Silicone is available in various forms to meet different clinical needs:

  • Adhesive and Non-adhesive Options
  • Biatain Silicone Lite: Thinner and more flexible for lower exudate wounds
  • Shapes: Square, multishape, heel, and sacral
  • Biatain Silicone Ag: Contains ionic silver for antibacterial action, suitable for second-degree burns

Indications and Precautions

This dressing is suitable for a wide range of chronic and acute wounds and can be used with compression therapy. It should not be used on individuals with known sensitivity to silicone. In cases of infection, it should be paired with an appropriate antimicrobial dressing and applied under healthcare supervision.

Sizes and Packaging

Available in various sizes and shapes, Biatain Silicone is packaged individually or in boxes of 5 or 10. Its thoughtful design has earned it the Red Dot Award, highlighting its effectiveness in fluid handling and potential to reduce healing time and prevent complications such as periwound maceration.
