Description

Candaderm Cream is a specialized topical treatment designed to address both fungal infections and associated inflammation of the skin. This dual-action cream combines two active ingredients: Clotrimazole and Hydrocortisone, each at a concentration of 1% w/w.

Active Ingredients

• Clotrimazole: An effective antifungal agent that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This action helps in treating various fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infections.
• Hydrocortisone: A mild corticosteroid that alleviates inflammation, itching, redness, and swelling, providing relief from symptoms associated with skin conditions like dermatitis and eczema.

Formulation

The cream is opaque, off-white, and viscous with a characteristic odour. It contains several excipients, including benzyl alcohol, chlorocresol, paraffin, propylene glycol, and purified water, which contribute to its consistency and preservation.

Indications

Candaderm Cream is indicated for use in conditions where fungal infections are accompanied by significant inflammation. It is suitable for treating:

• Fungal infected dermatitis
• Intertrigo
• Candida nappy rash
• Fungally infected eczema

Application

For optimal results, a small amount should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected area twice daily. It should be gently rubbed in and used for no more than seven days unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional. Following initial treatment, continuing with an antifungal-only cream is recommended to prevent recurrence.

Precautions

• Special Populations: Not recommended for children under two years without medical advice. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should consult a healthcare provider before use.
• Contraindications: Should not be used on broken skin, near the eyes, or in individuals with hypersensitivity to its components. It is also contraindicated in certain skin conditions and viral infections like herpes or chickenpox.

Warnings

• For external use only.
• Avoid using on large areas or under occlusive dressings.
• Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
• May affect the efficacy of latex products when applied to the genital area.

Packaging and Storage

Candaderm Cream is available in aluminium tubes with polyethylene screw caps, commonly in 30 g sizes. It should be stored at or below 30°C, with a shelf life of 30 months from manufacture and three months after opening.
