Ear wax removal drops are designed to effectively soften and assist in the removal of excess ear wax from the ear canal. This liquid solution is typically clear or straw-coloured and is intended for aural use only. It is commonly supplied in small bottles, ranging from 5 to 15 mL, making it convenient for personal use.

How It Works

The primary function of these drops is to facilitate the self-cleaning process of the ear by breaking down and softening hardened ear wax, making it easier to remove. This is achieved through the inclusion of a softening agent, often docusate sodium or urea hydrogen peroxide. The formulation may also include glycerol or glycerine as a base, along with preservatives such as hydroxybenzoate esters or phenoxyethanol.

Usage Instructions

For effective use, tilt the head so the affected ear faces upwards and instill the recommended number of drops, typically 3 to 5, into the ear canal. It is advisable to remain in this position for several minutes to allow the solution to penetrate effectively. Any excess solution can be wiped away. These drops can be used once or twice daily for up to 3 to 4 days, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Precautions

These drops are intended for external use only and should not be used if there is any known allergy to the ingredients, or if the eardrum is damaged or perforated. Additionally, they should not be used if there is ear pain, discharge, infection, inflammation, or tinnitus. Use in children under 12 years should only be on medical advice.

Potential Side Effects

Some users may experience mild irritation, pain, redness, itching, or inflammation at the application site. Other possible side effects include temporary bubbling in the ear, dizziness, reduced hearing, or tinnitus. These effects typically subside upon discontinuation of use.

Storage Instructions

To maintain effectiveness, store the drops below 25 to 30°C, keep them out of reach of children, and protect them from sunlight. It is recommended to discard the product after a specified period following opening, usually 4 to 6 weeks. Always ensure the bottle is kept upright and do not use the product after its expiry date.
