Description
The HOYA iSert PY-60AD is a specialized intraocular lens (IOL) designed for use in cataract surgery. As a monofocal, aspheric lens, it is intended for implantation within the capsular bag of the eye, effectively replacing the natural lens. This model is crafted from hydrophobic acrylic, ensuring a glistening-free visual experience, and features a proprietary aspheric optic design.
Key Features
- Optic Material: Hydrophobic acrylic with a biconvex shape and a 360° square edge design. This sharp edge is engineered to minimize posterior capsule opacification (PCO).
- Haptic Material: Constructed from blue polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the haptics are chemically bonded to the optic, featuring a modified C-loop configuration with 5° angulation.
- Optic Diameter: 6.0 mm, with an overall length of 12.5 mm.
- Incision Size: Compatible with incision sizes less than 2.75 mm or 2.8 mm, facilitating minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Optical Design
The lens includes an aberration-correcting optic with a spherical aberration compensation of -0.18μ, enhancing visual clarity. Available in both yellow and clear color options, the yellow variant provides UV and blue light protection, while the clear option does not offer UV protection.
Power Range
The lens power ranges from +6.00 D to +30.00 D in 0.50 D increments, accommodating a wide variety of visual correction needs. It operates on a refractive optical principle without astigmatism correction, as it is a monofocal lens.
Preloaded Injector System
The HOYA iSert PY-60AD comes with a fully preloaded injector system, simplifying the implantation process by eliminating the need for cleaning and sterilizing reusable injectors. The front injector tip has an outer diameter of 1.89 mm, contributing to precise and efficient lens delivery.
Manufacturing and Longevity
Manufactured through a process of lathe-cutting and tumble polishing, the lens is composed of 97% soft acrylic and 3% PMMA. It is designed for long-term use, with an expected lifetime of 20 years, typically requiring no replacement if functioning properly.
Patient Considerations
After surgery, patients receive an implant card for documentation purposes. While there are no known contraindications for adults, potential adverse events may include wound leak, dry eye syndrome, and other ocular conditions. Since its launch in 2007, the HOYA iSert PY-60AD has been implanted in over 10 million cases worldwide, demonstrating a strong track record of safety and performance.
