Description

The 7.0mm MICROCUFF* Paediatric Endotracheal Tube is expertly designed for effective airway management in pediatric patients aged 14 to less than 16 years. This specialized medical device ensures a secure and reliable airway seal, essential for the safe transmission of gases and pressures during anesthesia and intensive care.

Key Features

  • Cuff Design: The tube features a micro-thin polyurethane cuff membrane, only 10 microns thick, providing a high volume, low pressure (HVLP) seal. This innovative design minimizes the risk of airway trauma and mucosal injury by maintaining an ultra-low sealing pressure, averaging 11 cm H₂O.

  • Durability: The cuff is engineered to withstand burst pressures over 800 cm H₂O, offering high puncture strength. Its strategic placement creates a subglottic cuff-free zone, exerting pressure circumferentially on the trachea while avoiding the cricoid ring.

  • Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of cuff pressure is recommended, ensuring it does not exceed 20 cm H₂O for optimal safety.

Tube Specifications

  • Material: Constructed from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), the tube includes centimeter depth markings and a black intubation depth mark for precise placement.

  • Placement Aids: Four precision bands and a radiopaque line enhance visibility and confirm optimal positioning, while the short tip design omits the Murphy Eye for improved anatomical fit.

  • Connector: Equipped with a blue vent connector, the tube is sterile, latex-free, and intended for single-use, supplied in a box of 10.

Usage Instructions

  • Size Selection: Choose the appropriate tube size using the MICROCUFF® Sizing Chart or established formulas.

  • Intubation: During intubation, align the black intubation depth mark between the vocal cords. Confirm an audible air leak at ≤ 20 cm H₂O airway pressure with the cuff deflated.

  • Cuff Inflation: Inflate the cuff only to the necessary sealing pressure, continuously monitoring to maintain safety.

  • Preparation: Before use, test the cuff, pilot balloon, and valve by inflation, ensuring all air is evacuated from the cuff after testing.

  • Aseptic Technique: Employ aseptic techniques throughout and avoid manual compression of the pilot balloon. After use, the tube should be discarded appropriately.

Clinical Benefits

This endotracheal tube is meticulously designed to minimize airway trauma and reduce postintubation complications. Its superior sealing capability at low pressures makes it suitable for modern anesthesia and intensive care environments, providing a high margin of safety against endobronchial intubation and accidental extubation. The MICROCUFF* Paediatric Endotracheal Tube has been extensively studied, demonstrating safety and effectiveness in pediatric airway management.
