Description
Biatain Alginate, crafted by Coloplast, is a specialized wound dressing designed to enhance the healing process for moderately to heavily exuding wounds. Composed of 85% alginate and 15% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), this dressing transforms upon contact with wound exudate, forming a soft, cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed.
Key Benefits
- High Absorbency: Effectively manages wound exudate, minimizing leakage and reducing the risk of maceration.
- Gel Formation: Provides a moist healing environment, crucial for optimal wound recovery.
- Maintained Integrity: Ensures easy, one-piece removal with minimal pain and trauma.
Versatility and Conformability
Biatain Alginate can be tailored to fit wounds of various sizes, shapes, and depths, making it suitable for a wide range of wound types. Its ability to conform closely to the wound bed enhances its effectiveness, while its compatibility with compression therapy broadens its applicability.
Haemostatic Properties
The dressing's haemostatic effect, due to the release of calcium ions, helps arrest minor bleeding, adding an extra layer of functionality. This makes it particularly useful for wounds that require cavity filling, available in both flat and ribbon (rope) formats.
Indications for Use
Ideal for:
- Pressure ulcers
- Venous leg ulcers
- Arterial ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers

Precautions

Instructions for Use
- Application: Can be cut to size using sterile scissors. Apply after cleansing the wound and drying the surrounding skin.
- Changing: Align dressing changes with the secondary dressing or as clinically indicated, not exceeding a 7-day interval.
- Removal: Rinse with saline and use forceps if necessary to avoid trauma to new tissue.
