The i-gel® Supraglottic Airway by Intersurgical is a second-generation device designed for effective airway management in anaesthesia, resuscitation, and emergency care. Suitable for both adult and paediatric patients, it serves as a reliable conduit for intubation with fibreoptic guidance. This device is particularly beneficial for securing and maintaining a patent airway during routine and emergency anaesthetics in fasted patients, as well as for resuscitation of unconscious adults by trained personnel.

Design and Insertion

The i-gel® is pre-shaped for rapid and easy insertion, often in less than five seconds. Its design includes an epiglottic rest and position guide (in adult sizes) to facilitate correct placement. The device is accompanied by a colour-coded protective cradle or cage pack, made from recyclable polypropylene, which aids in maintaining shape and assists with lubrication and sterilisation.

Size Variations

The i-gel® is available in seven sizes, catering to neonates through to large adults, ensuring a suitable fit across a wide range of patient weights:

• Size 1.0: Neonate (2–5 kg)
• Size 1.5: Infant (5–12 kg)
• Size 2.0: Small paediatric (10–25 kg)
• Size 2.5: Large paediatric (25–35 kg)
• Size 3: Small adult (30–60 kg)
• Size 4: Medium adult (50–90 kg)
• Size 5: Large adult (90+ kg)
