Description
The X-Flow Prostatic Silicone Catheter by Coloplast is a specialized medical device crafted for use in urological procedures. Designed specifically for prostatic catheterization, it serves crucial roles such as short-term bladder drainage, postoperative bladder irrigation-lavage, and haemostasis following prostate surgery. This catheter is intended exclusively for use by trained healthcare professionals.
Material and Design
Constructed entirely from soft, biocompatible silicone, the catheter minimizes risks associated with allergies or toxicity, as it is not manufactured with natural rubber latex. Its transparent body allows for easy monitoring of drainage and urine visualization, enhancing clinical effectiveness.
The catheter features a closed round tip to facilitate introducer placement, along with wide irrigation and drainage channels to prevent blockages. The large bevel and eyes provide excellent drainage capacity, while the stiff walls assist in effective clot evacuation.
Versatile Configurations
The X-Flow Prostatic Silicone Catheter is available in various configurations to meet diverse clinical needs. It offers a range of tip designs, including Dufour, Delinotte (Coudé), Couvelaire, Straight, Straight short, and Straight over the guide. Some variants come with a guidewire to ease insertion.
Available in both 2-way and 3-way options, the catheter includes balloon volumes of 30 mL or 50 mL, with a consistent length of 42 cm. It is offered in sizes 18Fr, 20Fr, 22Fr, and 24Fr, and is packaged in boxes containing five catheters.
Indications and Precautions
The catheter is indicated for short-term bladder drainage, postoperative bladder irrigation-lavage, and haemostasis of the prostatic fossa after prostate surgery. Known contraindications include allergic reactions to the device materials.
Potential complications may include bladder irritation, pain, urinary tract infection, incrustation, stone formation, urinary tract trauma, leakage, balloon burst or deflation, catheter migration, and knotting. Therefore, its use is restricted to trained professionals and is available for sale only by or on the order of a physician.
