Description

Askina Barrier Film Swabs by B. Braun are sterile, individually packed 1 mL foam swab applicators designed to protect vulnerable skin from ongoing irritation and moisture-related damage. Each swab contains a non-stinging polymeric solution that dries in about 30 seconds to form a colorless, transparent, breathable barrier film. Once applied, the protective layer typically lasts around 48 to 72 hours, or up to 3 days.

This product is commonly used in stoma and wound care to help protect peri-wound and peri-stomal skin. It is also suitable for incontinence-associated skin protection and for shielding intact, fragile, compromised, or damaged skin from friction, moisture, body fluids, maceration, and excoriation.

Common Applications

Askina Barrier Film Swabs can be applied to vulnerable or reddened areas such as heels, elbows, toes, and hips. They are also useful around fixation sites for drainage tubes and external catheters, and on newly healed skin to help reduce the risk of secondary breakdown.

Use in Dressing and Stoma Care

The barrier film may help improve the adhesion of dressings and fixation tapes without interfering with stoma appliance adhesion. It also does not reduce the effectiveness of incontinent pads. In stoma care, it may help reduce discomfort during pouch removal.
