Description
HARTMANN (Paul Hartmann) Atrauman Ag is a sterile, non-adherent, silver-containing barrier wound contact layer used as a primary dressing. Thin, soft, and drapable, it conforms to complex body contours and can be cut to size. Its open-mesh tulle lets exudate pass freely into an appropriate secondary dressing, which is required to manage wound fluid.
Composition and materials
- Support fabric: Polyamide (nylon) tulle coated with elemental/metallic silver that is chemically bound to the fibers.
- Impregnation: Non-medicated, triglyceride-based neutral lipids; paraffin/petroleum-free and leaves no residue.
- INCI (impregnation): Caprylic/Capric/Myristic/Stearic Triglyceride; Bis-diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2; Macrogol 2000.
Antimicrobial mode of action
- On contact with wound exudate, small amounts of silver ions are released at the dressing surface, providing a localized antimicrobial barrier at the wound–dressing interface.
Key features and benefits
- Non-adherent contact layer helps minimize adhesion for atraumatic, low-pain dressing changes.
- Conformable design ensures close contact with the wound surface.
- Open mesh promotes exudate transfer to the secondary dressing.
- Lipid impregnation protects wound edges and helps prevent maceration.
Indications/intended use
- Chronic wounds: venous leg ulcers (ulcus cruris), diabetic leg ulcers, pressure ulcers (decubitus).
- Acute burns up to 2nd degree.
- For use on human skin by professional users.
Directions for use
- Under sterile conditions, remove from the peel pack with cover papers in place; cut to fit so it overlaps the wound and is approximately the size of the secondary dressing.
- Remove one cover paper and apply in a single layer only (do not fold or stack); remove the second cover paper or position using sterile tweezers/gloves.
- Secure with a suitable sterile secondary dressing (e.g., absorbent/superabsorbent pad, foam, or gauze) to manage exudate.
Wear time
- Barrier efficacy up to 7 days; apply a new Atrauman Ag at each dressing change.
- Maximum wear time per application: 7 days.
Sterility and packaging
- Sterile, individually sealed; commonly supplied in boxes of 10.
Available sizes
