Product Details
Description
Atrauman by HARTMANN is a non‑medicated, triglyceride‑impregnated, non‑adherent primary wound contact layer designed to support atraumatic dressing changes. It serves as a protective interface that helps prevent adherence of secondary dressings, allows exudate to pass to an absorbent layer, and keeps wound edges and surrounding skin supple.
Construction and Materials
- Fine mesh/knitted hydrophobic polyester with approximately 1 mm pores
- Impregnated with a neutral triglyceride ointment (not paraffin or petroleum jelly/Vaseline)
- Thin, soft, and drapable; can be cut to size with sterile scissors
- Sterile, individually sealed, single‑use
Key Properties
- Non‑adherent contact layer that minimizes tissue ingrowth and supports atraumatic removal
- Facilitates passage of exudate to a suitable secondary dressing
- Leaves less residue than traditional paraffin gauze formats
- Helps maintain skin suppleness at wound edges
Indications and Intended Use
- Primary contact layer for superficial acute and chronic wounds, including skin tears, abrasions, graft sites, and minor burns
- Suitable for patients with sensitive skin or sensitivities to certain medications
- May be used on infected or colonized wounds as a non‑antimicrobial contact layer with appropriate adjunct management
Exudate Management and Wear Time
- Not an exudate manager; always use with an appropriate absorbent secondary dressing
- Wear time depends on wound condition and exudate level; may remain in place for up to 7 days under a suitable secondary dressing
Application Guidance
- Remove from the peel pack with both protective covers in place
- If needed, cut to wound size with sterile scissors
- Remove one protective cover, place that side on the wound, then remove the second cover
- Always cover with a sterile, absorbent secondary dressing
- Replace at dressing changes per clinical judgment; if adhesion occurs after extended wear due to ointment absorption, place a second Atrauman over the first to release
Contraindications and Precautions
- Do not use in patients with known sensitivity to any dressing components
- Use according to local clinical protocols and practitioner guidance
