BURNSHIELD Dressing is a sterile, single-use hydrogel foam dressing designed for the initial emergency treatment of burn wounds and scalds. This branded burn-care range uses a polyurethane carrier wetted with Burnshield’s water-based hydrogel to support care during the acute phase of 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-degree burns.

The dressing is intended to cool the affected area, help dissipate heat, and maintain a moist wound environment. It also provides a physical barrier that can help protect the burn from external contamination while reducing additional trauma to damaged skin during early management.

Composition and design

The hydrogel formulation is water-based and includes purified water, proprietary gelling agents, and tea-tree oil at 1%. The dressing is supplied sterile in a foil pouch and sterilized by gamma irradiation.

Use instructions

To apply, open the foil pouch, remove the dressing, and place it directly over the burn. It should then be secured with a non-adherent secondary bandage or a suitable wrap such as cling film. Official guidance indicates the dressing is most effective within the first 24 hours after the burn occurred, after which medical attention should be sought.

Safety and storage

BURNSHIELD Dressing is described as non-toxic and suitable for use on children and for facial burns. It should not be used if the sterile packaging is damaged. Slight irritation may occur in users with sensitivity or allergy to any component.

Store at room temperature and protect from prolonged extreme temperatures. The product has a 5-year shelf life from the date of manufacture.
