Description

Prontosan Gel, manufactured by B. Braun, is a versatile wound care solution designed to enhance the healing process for a variety of wound types. This sterile, colorless gel is formulated to cleanse, moisten, and decontaminate wounds, making it suitable for both acute and chronic conditions, including burns. Its unique formulation helps in removing and preventing biofilm, thereby reducing the risk of infection and promoting a moist environment conducive to healing.

Indications

Prontosan Gel is indicated for use with:

• Acute wounds such as traumatic, surgical, and postoperative wounds.
• Chronic wounds including venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and pressure ulcers.
• Various types of burns, from thermal to radiation-induced.
• Critically colonized or infected wounds, wound cavities, fistulas, and abscesses.

• Glycerol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, and Purified Water: Enhance the gel's physical properties.

Application

Prontosan Gel can be applied directly to the wound bed or onto a dressing. For deep or tunneling wounds, a thicker layer is recommended. It can be used alongside Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution for extended antimicrobial action. The gel should be reapplied at each dressing change, with removal facilitated by irrigation.

Safety Precautions

• External Use Only: Not for injection or ingestion.
• Allergy Considerations: Avoid use in individuals with known allergies to PHMB or betaine.
• Specific Exclusions: Not suitable for use on the central nervous system, meninges, middle or inner ear, eyes, or hyaline cartilage.
• Environmental Care: Slightly hazardous to aquatic life; proper disposal is advised.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Once opened, the gel remains usable for up to eight weeks for single patient use.
