Overview

This disposable flat tourniquet is designed to temporarily restrict venous blood flow, helping clinicians identify veins for venipuncture or cannulation. Made from a flat, flexible, latex-free material, it has no moving parts and supports left- or right-handed use. Supplied non-sterile for single-patient, single use.

Placement and application

• Position approximately 8–10 cm (about 4–5 finger widths) above the intended puncture or cannulation site.
• Create tension by crossing the ends and securing with a quick-release half-knot loop.
• Reassess the vein after application; adjust as needed to achieve adequate prominence without undue pressure.

Removal and timing

• Release as soon as blood flow is established and always before withdrawing the needle.
• Do not leave in place for two minutes or more.
• Discard immediately after use.

Cautions and infection control

• Avoid excessive pressure that could impair arterial flow.
• Minimize venous stasis to reduce the risk of haemolysis.
• Perform hand hygiene before and after each procedure.
• Single-use only; do not reuse.
