Description
The Nutricia Flocare PUR ENFit Nasogastric Feeding Tube (110 cm) is a transparent polyurethane tube designed for short‑term gastric feeding, with a maximum in‑situ duration of 6–8 weeks. It is suitable for adults and children, with size selection determined by clinical judgement. An ENFit patient‑end connection supports use with ENFit enteral feeding systems.
Design and materials
- Material: medical‑grade polyurethane (PUR), latex‑free and DEHP‑free; skin‑friendly surface.
- Radiopacity: three white radiopaque lines for full‑length X‑ray visibility.
- Markings: blue 1 cm graduations to aid depth and position verification.
- Tip: open, rounded tip with lateral and distal outlets to optimize flow and facilitate insertion.
- Guidewire: lubricated (siliconised) guidewire with welded ball tip; terminates before the first lateral hole to help protect the mucosa; guidewire includes an ENFit connector.
- Connector: ENFit patient‑end connection.
- Identification: color‑coded size indicators for quick selection.
- Length: 110 cm.
Indication and suitability
- Intended for nasogastric placement for short‑term gastric feeding.
- Use in adults and children based on clinical assessment.
- Maximum recommended duration in situ: 6–8 weeks.
Sizes and options (110 cm)
- CH6, CH8, CH10, CH12.
- CH14 variant available with an additional suction port for gastric decompression.
Handling and care
- Confirm correct tube placement before starting feeds, according to local protocol (e.g., X‑ray or gastric pH testing).
- Maintain hygiene/aseptic technique when handling feeds, tubes, and administration sets.
- Flush before and after feeds and medications (at least three times daily) to help maintain patency.
- Replace the tube every 6–8 weeks or per local guidance.
- If respiratory distress occurs at any time, stop feeding and seek urgent medical advice.
Safety and contraindications
- Do not use in patients with delayed gastric emptying and/or at risk of aspiration.
- Begin feeding only after placement is confirmed and ongoing position checks are performed per protocol.
Range note
- PUR: open tip; guidewire stops before the first lateral hole (as described above).
- PURsoft: closed tip; guidewire extends into the tip.
This configuration provides clear radiographic visibility, precise depth control with 1 cm graduations, and ENFit connectivity to support standardized enteral practice for short‑term gastric nutrition.
