Description
The Avanos MICROCUFF Adult Endotracheal Tube is a cuffed oral/nasal (Magill curve) tube designed for establishing and maintaining an artificial airway in adult patients across ICU, surgical, and emergency settings. Its MICROCUFF microthin polyurethane cuff (approximately 13 microns) is engineered to self-seal, achieving a high tracheal seal at low cuff pressures to help limit peritubal leakage during mechanical ventilation and airway management. The design aims to minimize micro-aspiration of pharyngeal secretions and, per manufacturer claims, may lower the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) during prolonged ventilation. The tube incorporates a Murphy eye configuration and clear markings to support accurate placement and ongoing verification.
Key features
- MICROCUFF microthin (≈13 µm) polyurethane cuff designed to self-seal for a high tracheal seal at low cuff pressures
- Intended to reduce leakage and minimize micro-aspiration of pharyngeal secretions; manufacturer reports potential to lower VAP risk during prolonged ventilation
- Murphy eye to support gas flow if the distal tip becomes apposed
- Oral/nasal Magill curve allows flexible route selection for intubation
- Depth/measurement markings with a black vocal cord marker near the cuff and positioning bands for placement guidance
- Continuous radiopaque line for X-ray visibility and post-intubation confirmation
- Latex-free cuff material; single-use device
Applications
- Adult airway management in operating rooms, intensive care units, and emergency departments
- Cases requiring a reliable seal at lower cuff pressures, including prolonged ventilation scenarios
Sizes and packaging
- Internal diameter options (mm): 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 10.0
- Supplied in a box of 10 tubes
Materials and construction
- Cuff: microthin polyurethane (approximately 13 microns), latex-free
- Radiopaque line integrated for imaging visibility
Note: Use according to institutional protocols and professional training. Cuff pressure monitoring is recommended to maintain a low-pressure seal and protect tracheal tissue.
