Prontosan Irrigation Solution

Description

Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution is a sterile, ready-to-use solution from B. Braun designed for wound cleansing and wound-bed preparation. It combines betaine, a surfactant that helps loosen unwanted material from the wound surface, with polihexanide (PHMB/polyhexanide), an ingredient used to support wound decontamination. This formulation is intended to cleanse, rinse, irrigate, moisten, and moisturize wounds as part of routine wound care.

The solution helps loosen and remove debris, slough, wound coatings, and other contaminants. It is also described as helping remove or prevent biofilm, which can be a barrier to effective wound management. In addition to direct wound irrigation, it may be used to moisten encrusted dressings or bandages before removal, helping make dressing changes easier and reducing disruption to the wound area.

Suitable Uses

Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution is indicated for a wide range of wounds, including acute, chronic, and burn wounds. Examples include traumatic wounds, post-operative wounds, and chronic skin ulcers such as venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and pressure ulcers. It may also be used for colonised or infected wounds as part of appropriate wound care.
