Sorbalgon Calcium Alginate Dressing

Description

HARTMANN Sorbalgon is a sterile calcium alginate primary wound dressing made from natural, seaweed‑derived fibers. On contact with wound exudate or blood, an ion exchange forms a soft, hydrophilic gel that contours to the wound bed. This gel helps maintain a moist environment conducive to healing, supports control of minor bleeding, and allows low‑pain, atraumatic removal. The dressing maintains integrity so it can be removed in one piece and is designed for use beneath an appropriate secondary cover.

Indications

For external wounds with moderate to heavy exudate, including pressure injuries; venous or arterial leg ulcers; diabetic ulcers; donor sites; post‑surgical wounds; partial‑thickness burns; abscesses; and other bleeding or exuding wounds.

Application

• Cleanse and debride per protocol; protect periwound skin by removing excess solution from surrounding tissue.
• Select an appropriate size; dressing may be cut to fit the wound bed.
• Place into the wound and cover/secure with a suitable secondary dressing.
• Change based on wound condition and exudate level; reapply when the secondary dressing approaches capacity or as directed by clinical protocol.

Removal

• Remove the secondary dressing. If the wound appears dry, moisten the alginate with sterile saline to ease removal, then gently lift off and discard.

Wear time and change frequency

May remain in place for several days when clinically appropriate. Change when saturated or when the dressing has significantly converted to gel, and always according to clinical protocol.

Packaging

Typically supplied in boxes of 10 pieces (5 × 5 cm and 10 × 10 cm) and 5 pieces (10 × 20 cm). Each dressing is sterile and individually wrapped.
