Description

Abbott Vital 1.5kcal is a 1.5 kcal/mL, peptide‑based enteral formula designed for the dietary management of malabsorption/maldigestion and impaired gastrointestinal function. It provides a nutritionally complete and balanced profile and can be used as a sole source of nutrition or as a supplement. Suitable for oral (sip) or tube feeding. Food for Special Medical Purposes; use under medical supervision.

Presentations and flavours

• 1000 mL Ready‑to‑Hang (RTH) container: approximately 1500 kcal; flavour: Vanilla.
• 200 mL recloseable bottle: 300 kcal per bottle; flavours: Vanilla, Café Latte, Mixed Berry.

Composition and nutritional profile

• Energy density: 1.5 kcal/mL.
• Energy: ~150 kcal (≈631 kJ) per 100 mL; ~300 kcal (≈1262 kJ) per 200 mL.
• Macronutrient energy distribution: Protein 18%; Fat 33%; Carbohydrate 49%.
• Protein: 6.75 g/100 mL; peptide‑based from hydrolysed whey protein and hydrolysed sodium caseinate.
• Fat: includes medium‑chain triglycerides (MCT) at ~3.85 g/100 mL (≈70% of total fat) and canola oil.
• Carbohydrate: from maltodextrin and sugars; sweetened.
• Fibre: fibre‑free (no added fibre).
• Osmolality: ~630 mOsm/kg H2O.
• Water: ~77.6 g/100 mL.
• Micronutrients: nutritionally complete for vitamins and minerals in 1000 mL (excluding electrolytes); includes added L‑carnitine and taurine.

Dietary and allergen suitability

• Gluten free; clinically lactose free (typical lactose ~326 mg/L); contains milk proteins.
• May be suitable for people with diabetes when routine glucose monitoring is performed.
• Halal and Kosher certifications available in many markets/flavours; verify locally.

Directions for use and administration

• Ready to use; shake well and administer at room temperature.
• Suitable for sip feeding and tube feeding; low viscosity passes through fine nasogastric tubes.
• Adjust volume and flow rate according to patient needs and tolerance.
• May be decanted into an appropriate enteral container; compatible with gravity or pump systems, including Abbott enteral feeding pumps.

Storage and handling

• Store unopened at room temperature; avoid prolonged light exposure of the RTH container.
• Open immediately before use. Once opened, cover, refrigerate, and use within 24 hours; discard any unused product after this time.

Contraindications and cautions

• For enteral use only; not for intravenous use.
• Not for use in galactosaemia.
• Not for children under 1 year; not intended for use in children unless advised by a healthcare professional.
• Potential drug–nutrient interactions (e.g., vitamin K with warfarin); monitor therapy.
• Do not add ingredients without consulting a pharmacist or dietitian.
• Maintain good oral hygiene when used as sip feeds.
